This is how this is gonna go.

I’m going to bed.

I’ve Tumblr Savior’d Siwon, and he’s gonna stay that way indefinitely.

JUST TO GIVE YA’LL A HEADS UP:

Queerphobic statements and actions hit me really hard. They’re not a trigger, but they bother me a lot. Seeing that gifset on its own made my already bad day (and not even just generally bad, but hey let’s make fun of minorities at work and attempt to use false logic to explain why it’s okay bad) a little worse. Seeing it alongside laughter, and assent made it seem almost unbearable in hindsight. My chest is really sore, I’ve stopped crying but I mean my face is all stingy because my skin is sensitive, and this is really embarrassing, but I stay too quiet too often and I shouldn’t have to ya’ll are my friends.

This stuff isn’t cute; it isn’t okay.

You need to tag anti-queer sentiments accordingly. If you’re unsure, tag it anyways. When you decide what kind of tagging system you’re going to use, let me know so I can plug it in to Tumblr Savior.

I don’t care if you stan idols who say, or do crappy things. Just tag it so I don’t have to stan them with you.

So to close this off, here’s my favourite gif of Nino and Ohno together because Arashi always seems to make me smile when I’m down.

A little guide for those who stan people who have fucked up

yukaristea:

  • DO NOT make excuses for them
  • DO NOT ignore the problem
  • DO NOT lash out angrily at people who call said person out
  • DO NOT tell people to stop being offended and calm down
  • DO NOT say ‘they didn’t mean it’
  • DO NOT say ‘it’s their culture!!11 they don’t know any better’

If they didn’t mean it they wouldn’t have done it. And granted, if they didn’t know any better than it’s about fucking time you start educating them. Tell them, and ignorant ignoring fans, why it’s wrong and offensive.

No one ever said you can’t stan someone who hasn’t fucked up. Just always know that they did.

Can you explain to me why this kpop stuff seems to have less to do with music and more with a strange fanbase hellbent on sexualizing the fuck out of everything they do? I seriously do not understand what it's about.

ANON, YOU ARE GREAT.

And I mean that. I’m actually excited to give my opinion on this.

[Disclaimer: The following words are only my opinion based upon my experiences both experiencing k-pop as a musical genre, and as a fandom hell bent on sexualizing the frak out of everything idols do.]

FIRST OFF: Fandom isn’t some grand club where we agree on everything. It would be cool if that were true, but it’s not. Especially in k-fandom I find that there’s a large disparity between people who don’t sexualize idols (characters would be a replacement term here if we were talking about most other fandoms) at all VS. people who sexualize idols with all their might.

SECOND… OFF: I don’t know what heterosexual fandom is like. At all. In any capacity. Just so everyone knows. When queer fandom is sexualized (think: slash, femslash, homo OTPs, blahblahblah) though, I honestly think it’s because seeing k-idols skinshipping the frak out of one another is probably the only positive depiction of homosexuality that some people experience on a day-to-day basis (that’s a lot of what it is for me). And honestly that’s so sad. Especially considering that while, yes, it’s statistically improbable that there are no gay/queer k-idols doing skinship, it’s also statistically improbable that there are no completely homophobic k-idols also doing skinship. And that’s upsetting.

THIRD OFF: Dear Anon, I don’t think you understand the lengths k-fandoms will go for music. For example, I stayed up refreshing my browser for 4 hours when MBLAQ was up for Triple Crown promoting This Is War. I know there are plenty of people who did the same. For as big of a disparity as there is between non-sexualizing and sexualizing k-pop fans, there are some things which do connect us. Love for music is a big one.

FOURTH OFF: … Idols are plenty sexual/sexualized, for the most part, without fandom’s help. Just putting that out there.

TL;DR K-fandom isn’t something that there are a lot of answers for, sometimes fandom is the only time people are able to experience positive sexuality, music is always a connecting factor for fans, and really it’s not like we’re just making crap up.

… Hope that answered your question enough. If not, let me know.

Also if I’ve flown off the handle with one or more points I would really appreciate if people would let me know so I can edit my arguments. Much thanks!

kpopsecrets:

I dreamt that I died. And in my dream, when K-pop fans die, they go to a place called the Seoul Train, where they dance to K-pop forever. But just as I had stepped on the train, JYP showed up, dressed in his pajamas from the Wonder Girls movie. He grabbed my hand and told me that that it wasn’t time yet for me to “shake what my umma gave me.” Then he pulled me off the train and I woke up.

s!b: The whole “K-pop fans dance to K-Pop forever when they die” makes it sound like K-pop is my religion. :/

Truer words have never been spoken. It is a constant battle between loving the groups, and watching as they exploit other cultures without care or repercussions no matter how much we petition. (via todiedreaming)
